Illustrating children’s books

I have had the pleasure of illustrating around 20 picture books and many pieces for the education sector. I love creating characters and worlds for their stories to play out. But my favourite part of illustrating a picture book is creating the ‘secret characters. It’s often the pets. In Eva’s Imagination’ the pet dog and cat have their own little story line going on. In ‘Grace’s Mystery Seed’ there’s a whole crowd of garden animals doing their thing. And in ‘The Night Before Christmas’ (my first published picture book) it’s the little mouse you have to look for.

This career has led to some delightful and interesting projects and surprises. I’ve illustrated picture books that tackle some really difficult subjects that are a starting point for children and adults to have conversations they may not otherwise have had. And picture books that educate about the Australian outback, cooking and gardening.
